This new era of the mobile economy brings to us 5G and with it comes a wide range of exciting new services. As the digital world continues to evolve, many operators are moving beyond the traditional telco businesses and exploring new opportunities to stay ahead of the competition. Over the coming years, mobile revenue is predicted to rise exponentially and here are the new opportunities that will fuel this:

Internet of Things
By 2025, the number of IoT connections will triple to 25 billion, ultimately increasing IoT revenue to $1.1 trillion (4 times of the current revenue). Mobile operators are strategically expanding their services to IoT solutions.

Content
With changing content production and distribution models, shifting consumer behavior and an ever-increasing number of competitors in the market, mobile operators are looking to optimize their content space.

Artificial Intelligence
Mobile operators around the world and focusing on AI-based applications including chatbot, customer care, advertising, AI as a Service and much more.

Devices
Smartphones remain the closest point of customer interaction. They are continuously adopting emerging technologies such as AI and immersive technology.

By making the most of these new opportunities, mobile operators can benefit from increased revenues. 5G has now become a reality. Post successful, commercial launches in the United States and in South Korea, during the end of 2018, 16 additional major countries will have launched 5G networks by the end of 2019. The adoption of 5G and the ROI it brings will depend on 3 signification factors:

  1. Approximate cost
  2. Deployment dependencies
  3. Opportunities for value creation.

To ensure a smooth transition for customers and enhance customer engagement during this phase, mobile operators will invest around $480 billion globally by 2020 in mobile capex.

7 countries will account for half of the new subscribers by 2025:
